Van buren drive in theater9/13/2023 (This review probably applies to all drive-in theaters. I probably wouldve stayed if I just came here casually or had seen the movie already. As for me, my party and I agreed to leave half way into the movie because we couldnt stand missing all the details. Just go casually and dont expect too much (like I did). Just give this place a try and try it out yourself. If my review has turned you off in any way. I think this place is actually pretty great for the experience. So I cant comment on those.Īlso, if you plan on staying inside the car, keep in mind that, even with the windows down, it got quite stuffy and the windshield a bit foggy at times. Trucks definitely seem to be the best way to enjoy this experience (or the back of an SUV). Also, lots of laughing, talking, cars beeping, car alarms going off, headlights turning off and on, headlights being flashed onto the movie (thus washing it out), cars turning on and off, but thats kind of to be expected for a drive-in theater.ĭirectional signs should be dimly lit as it was a bit hectic and confusing coming here for the first time. We went over to ask them to turn it off, but they replied that they couldnt. The audience - Someone parked in front of us, facing us, but they wouldnt turn off their headlights (see pic, however, the picture doesnt really show the amount of glare that was on my windshield). The screen also felt quite small even though we were just parked 3 rows from the front. We went to watch a horror movie, but we could barely see any details in the dark which made it quite difficult to understand what was going on in many scenes. Im sure the screen resolution itself is fine, but it doesnt get dark enough outside for the screen to be very clear. your battery might die.) Its transmitted through an FM radio, so how good can the quality be. (Also, keep in mind, depending on the condition of your car and car battery. We have a mediocre sound system, but even so, there was a weird clicking noise throughout the entire movie. This place is good for the experience and probably better/more fun for people with children.Īudio - Unless you have a car with an amazing sound system, then your sound quality is gonna suck. This third screen will also offer fire pit sites for watching the movies around the fire with friends and family. Not the best for quality junkies. We are one of a very few drive-ins able to offer this feature! Our third screen will show first run feature movies and is located in our full service campground consisting of 20 large RV parking spots with full hook ups. Our second screen will contain an LED Video Wall system that allows us to run 2nd run movies during the day. Our future looks bright! As we close to the public for the winter season, we will continue to build our second and third screens. This third screen will also offer fire pit sites for watching the movies around the fire with friends and family…what fun! We are in the process of bringing them up to current building code for years of enjoyment! We are remodeling the original 1948 Concession Stand and Ticket Booth that are still standing although in very rough shape. Opening our doors as the Van Buren Drive-in & Activities Center on October 1, 2021, we currently have 1 screen built in the original location of the 1948 screen. Later in 2011 after years of neglect and vandalism, the original 1948 screen blew down in a tornado that ripped through Van Buren. As drive-in attendance declined, the owners allowed the last few rows to be reclaimed by the surrounding woods such that when the doors were closed in 1991, only 9 of 12 car rings remained usable. Originally, with parking for 850 cars spread across almost 15 acres of parking area, she was one of the biggest of her time. She was born in 1948 and opened her doors in 1949. At the time there was very little left of the old girl and she was in very rough shape. Our dream became reality in the fall of 2020 when we were able to purchase the abandoned Van Buren Drive-In.
